How to Open Corrupted Powerpoint files

MS Powerpoint files are not immune to corruption. And it is a bitter truth!!!

Powerpoint files get corrupted easily, mainly due to virus infection, sudden system shutdown, application malfunction, etc.

As a result, all the hard work and the research that went into making the presentation gets lost or becomes inaccessible. It is therefore always recommended to keep a backup of your vital data to avoid data loss. However, if you have not maintained any backup, then you might feel that your data is at the verge of loss. But, you can still retrieve your data using a powerful Powerpoint Recovery software to repair the corrupted Powerpoint file.

Imagine a situation – You are trying to open a Powerpoint presentation that you created just few days back. But, to your surprise, it does not open and instead get an error message like below:

"This is not a PowerPoint Presentation."

"PowerPoint cannot open the type of file represented by [filename].ppt."

"Part of the file is missing."

After any of these error messages appears, you may not be able to open the Powerpoint file and the information stored inside the presentation becomes inaccessible.

Cause:

You may encounter any of these error messages if the Powerpoint file is corrupt.

Resolution:

If the Powerpoint file is not opening, you can still recover the slides by inserting them into another presentation. Follow these steps to do so:

Firstly, start MS Powerpoint and open a new presentation. In the Insert menu, click 'Slides' from File. Browse for the corrupted Powerpoint file and click 'Insert All'. This enables Powerpoint to insert slides from the damaged Powerpoint file into the blank presentation. You can then save the new file under a new name.

These steps may help you in recovering the contents from the corrupted Powerpoint file.

However, if the file does not open, then you need to repair the corrupted Powerpoint file using a Powerpoint Recovery tool. Incorporating high-end scanning algorithms, these PPT Recovery applications scan and repair the corrupted Powerpoint presentation with ease. The main feature desired of these presentation repair tools is that they restore the file without making any changes in the original contents and settings of the Powerpoint file. Also, the graphical user interface should enable you to repair the file without any difficulty.
