Microsoft SharePoint Server enables you to make a collection of different SQL Servers and SharePoint Servers, which work together for providing basic services bound together by single configuration database. This collection is known as SharePoint Server Farm. The configuration lets you combine various services and make them available simultaneously. However, in some situations, the configuration database may become unusable due to corruption and put you in need of SharePoint recovery solutions.

MS SharePoint 2010 enables you to restore configuration database and thus you can restore the farm configuration. However, this facility was not provided in earlier versions, such as MOSS 2007. Since the latest version enables you to directly restore farm configuration, you need not to restore configuration database.
