Cheltenham Festival is the biggest UK horse race meeting in the National Hunt calendar. Top quality racing takes place over four days, with the Cheltenham Gold Cup the highlight of the entire Festival and also the race with the biggest prize money.
The Cheltenham Festival starts on a Tuesday when the famous Cheltenham roar can be heard as the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle gets the meeting underway. This is always an exciting race contested between horses who are not yet the finished article and therefore open to improvement.
The other big races on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival are the Arkle and the Champion Hurdle, with Hurricane Fly winning the 2011 renewal and justify the market confidence in the Irish raider that was ridden by top jokey Ruby Walsh.
