How to recover Windows XP when the system repeatedly restarts

If you use Windows XP there would have been numerous times when you were unable to boot the system. I know how that feels because I, too, have found myself in the middle of nowhere in such situations. Such erroneous situation can be caused by various reasons such as virus infections, by selecting inappropriate settings, power outages, corrupted file system, etc.

In such cases, you should find out the exact cause and try to fix the problem. If you are not able to resolve the issue, then you should use a third-party windows data recovery software to recover Windows files.

Consider a scenario wherein you have a Windows XP system. Of late, when you start the system, it does not boot properly and repeatedly logs on and logs off while displaying the blue screen (Blue Screen of Death).

Cause:

Following reasons could be responsible for this unwanted situation:

You have enabled the Automatically restart option in the System properties.

The Windows paging file is less in size than the memory that is installed in the computer.

There is a STOP error that is causing the system to stop. Resolution:

You should perform either of the following methods to resolve this erroneous situation:

Modify the registry settings: You should modify the registry settings to disable Automatically restart option. You can do this by performing the following steps:

Reinstall Windows on a different partition.

Open Registry Editor by running the regedit.exe file.

Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.

Click Load Hive on the Registry menu, and open System file in the original Windows installation location.

Modify the value of the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CrashControl” registry to 1 to disable the Automatically restart option.

Now, with this option resolved you can check for the cause of the STOP error.

Modify the PagingFiles: You should modify the value of the PagingFiles for the original installation. This would enable a dump file to be created by the STOP error message.

You would be able to fix the problem and allow you to access the system. However, there are chances that you may lose valuable Windows files in the process. In such situations, you should use a third-party Windows data recovery software to recover Windows files. Such Windows data recovery tools are extremely safe in nature and do not overwrite the data in the storage media while scanning it.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is a Windows data recovery software that recovers lost, deleted, or formatted data from inaccessible FAT, NTFS, or exFAT file systems. This Windows data recovery tool is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and 2000.
