All about JAXP
The article covers basic concepts of JAXP, demonstrates why it is needed in the XML parsing space, and shows how the parser used by JAXP can easily be changed. It also drills down into SAX and DOM, two popular Java and XML APIs that are related to JAXP.
Changing the JAXP Parser Classes
This tip extends that discussion by explaining what vendor-neutral means in JAXP, and how to change the parsers that JAXP configures and constructs.
Creating Parsers with JAXP
One of the major strengths of J2EE is its vendor-neutral, integrated support for XML. This month's tip focuses on how to use the Java API for XML (JAXP). JAXP provides a built-in set of interfaces for creating and configuring XML parsers in J2EE applications. This tip assumes you are familiar with the SAX and DOM interfaces to XML documents, and with basic XML terminology.
Java API for XML Processing (JAXP), Getting Started
In this first lesson on Java JAXP, I began by providing a brief description of JAXP and XML. Then I reviewed the salient aspects of XML for those who need to catch up on XML technology. Following that, I provided a brief discussion of the Document Object Model (DOM) and the Simple API for XML (SAX). I discussed how a DOM object represents an XML document as a tree structure in memory. I explained that once you have the tree structure in memory, there are many operations that you can perform to create, manipulate, and/or modify the structure. Then you can convert that modified tree structure into a new XML document.
Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB)
The Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Java technology are natural partners in helping developers exchange data and programs across the Internet. That's because XML has emerged as the standard for exchanging data across disparate systems, and Java technology provides a platform for building portable applications. This partnership is particularly important for Web services, which promise users and application developers program functionality on demand from anywhere to anywhere on the Web. XML and Java technology are recognized as ideal building blocks for developing Web services and applications that access Web services.
JAXP makes XML manageable for Java
Java technology and XML are arguably the most important programming developments of the last five years. The Java API for XML Processing (JAXP) lets you validate, parse, and transform XML using several different APIs. JAXP provides both ease of use and vendor neutrality. This article shows you how to take advantage of the API's parsing and validation features.
